Cyber War in the United States
For the last few years, it hasn’t been much of a secret that the next major war isn’t going to be a physical one, it’s a digital one.
Power providers, banks, defense contractors, and more are being hit on a daily basis by these cyber attacks. Most people only consider physical wars the severe ones therefore, this “digital war” isn’t scaring many people. However, the digital wars can cause just as much damage. In these digital wars, the enemy wants information; critical and highly confidential information, such as banking information, military plans, and more.
This “digital war” started about a year ago. Banks in the United States have been hit many times already, social security numbers have been stolen, and major government websites have been taken down.
Government officials are finding advanced persistent threats that have been sitting on United States networks for almost a year – completely undetected.
United States entities are unfortunately the target for the majority of these attacks. A few recent attacks came from China and Iran and resulted in the theft of intellectual properties and identities.
Another very popular concept is the formation of groups known as “hacktivist” groups. One of the most popular hacktivist groups is Anonymous. Anonymous is a group of highly skilled criminal hackers that have brought down government and bank websites all over the world.
