Security Assessments Since Sandy Hook
Since the horrific event of Sandy Hook Elementary School, elementary schools across the nation have been analyzing their security measures, putting stronger policies in place, and re-evaluating their system.
Many schools, have always considered getting a security assessment done, but usually due to budget restraints and higher priorities on the list, a process such as this can get pushed back. However, with the recent events of Sandy Hook Elementary, the task of assessing all security measures has become priority.
Although most people think, “it’s an elementary school…why would such measures need to be done?” – unfortunately it’s become a reality. Schools, whether you are an elementary school, middle school, or high school need to assess their security systems. The most important aspects that need to be analyzed and determined are:
• School emergency and crisis preparedness
• Crime and violence prevention
• Security measures currently in place, and security measures, which should be implemented.
• School-community collaboration
• School employee training
• School police/security personnel
These are just a few of the main areas, which need to be analyzed and determined in order to ensure complete safety. By having a professional security consultant analyze and assess your current situation, then make the appropriate recommendations; you’ll be putting your school in a better position for crisis prevention.
